A TEENAGE boy has died after sustaining a 'serious injury' during a Gaelic football match in Kerry.
Aodhán Ó Conchubhair, 14, clashed heads with another player in an accident during an U15 Kerry colleges game last week.
The Dingle native was rushed to hospital and was conscious in the minutes after the incident.
He was treated at University Hospital Kerry (UHK) before being transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH), where he tragically died some time later.
Today, Dingle GAA confirmed Aodhán’s death and said it was “truly saddened at the tragic loss” of the young footballer.
“Aodhán will be deeply missed by his loving mom Áine, dad John, sister Ciara and all his teammates," the club added.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Aodhán’s family and friends."
Kerry GAA chairman Tim Murphy also paid his respects, saying that the Kerry GAA community was deeply saddened by the loss.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of this talented young man. Words cannot express adequately the emotions felt by the Kerry GAA community on hearing this tragic news. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.
"May Aodhán rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
The teen's secondary school this morning posted an image on Facebook of a black ribbon next to its school crest, in a mark of respect to its tragic student.
