Kevin Spacey ruled out of Sean Quinn movie

Kevin Spacey will not be taking on the role of former Irish billionaire Sean Quinn on the big screen despite being linked to the role last month by number of Irish publications.

Reports that Spacey was being lined up for the role have been quashed by the Oscar-winning actor’s representatives who told The Irish Post that it is “untrue” that he is in any way involved in the production.

In a statement Spacey’s publicist Staci Wolfe said Spacey “has no offer and has had no discussions about participating in this film.”

A film on Quinn’s life is nonetheless due to begin shooting next year and will be produced by James Mitchell of Dublin-based Soho Moon Pictures with a script from Emmy award-winning screenwriter, Ron Hutchinson.

Soho Moon have previously said that the film is “in the very early stages of production at the minute. We would hope to start production in the New Year.” It is not known who will play the 66-year-old.

Quinn, who is currently serving a nine-week prison sentence in Dublin, was once worth an estimated £4bn before the collapse of his business empire.

His rise in fortune began in 1973 when he borrowed £100 to set up Sean Quinn Quarries Ltd, extracting gravel from his family farm, washing it and selling it to local builders.

He went on to build up an empire that spanned many sectors including cement, glass, hotels, insurance and banking.
