THE recent revival of Conor McPherson’s The Weir at the Donmar Warehouse will be transferred to the West End early next year.
The critically acclaimed play will run for 12 weeks at the Wyndham’s Theatre from January 16.
The original Donmar cast including Irish actors Risteárd Cooper (Bittersweet), Dervla Kirwan (Ballykissangel), Peter McDonald (Green Wing) and Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted), and British actor Brian Cox will all reprise their roles.
The Weir first premiered in London in 1997 and won the Critics’ Circle Olivier Award for Best New Play.
It helped established Dublin-born McPherson as an esteemed playwright at the age of 25.
The recent revival was directed by Josie Rourke and designed by Tom Scutt and the production received high praise when it ran at the Covent Garden theatre between April 18 and June 8.
The play's plot sees four Irish men boast ghost stories to impress a young woman in an isolated pub on the west coast of Ireland.
McPherson's new play, The Night Alive, is currently running at the Donmar until July 27.
