Acclaimed Irish feature What Richard Did from director Lenny Abrahamson has been nominated for 10 Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTA) ahead of its release across Britain this weekend.

The IFTA nominees were announced yesterday (January 10) with What Richard Did receiving nominations for Best Film, Script, Best Director and more.

Lead actor Jack Reynor, recently confirmed for his first Hollywood starring role in Michael Bay’s fourth Transformers film, has been nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role, along with lead actress Roisin Murphy.

RTÉ gangland drama Love/ Hate dominated the television categories with 11 nominations.

Writer Stuart Carolan and director David Caffrey have been nominated for the second time in the Script and Director categories, while lead actors Robert Sheehan, Tom Vaughan Lawlor and Charlie Murphy have all received nominations.

The TV series also earned supporting actors nominations for Susan Loughnane and Peter Coonan.

In What Richard Did Jack Reynor plays wealthy Dublin student Richard Karlsen, whose life with girlfriend Lara, played by Murphy, is turned upside down after one fateful night.

Directed by triple IFTA-winning (Adam and Paul, Garage, Prosperity) filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson, What Richard Did was produced by Ed Guiney for Dublin-based Element Pictures from a script by Shameless scriptwriter Malcolm Campbell.

Speaking after the nominations were announced yesterday, Jack Reynor said he was “delighted to be nominated alongside such admirable Irish actors. It's a massive honour for me.”

Director Lenny Abrahamson and producer Ed Guiney received the news in New Mexico yesterday, where they are working on Abrahamson’s next feature Frank, which stars Golden Globe nominee Michael Fassbender, Oscar nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Variety’s Actor to Watch Domhnall Gleeson.

Lenny Abrahamson said of the IFTA nominations: “It's a really great conclusion to the Irish life of the film to have it nominated in so many categories. It's a real testament to the quality of the people I worked with on this film".

Ed Guiney of Element Pictures added: “What Richard Did is our third collaboration with Lenny and we are so pleased that his brilliant work as well as Malcolm Campbell's great script and our wonderful cast and crew have been recognized in this way.”

What Richard Did was the best performing Irish film in the Irish box office in 2012.

IFTA will celebrate its 10th anniversary with the 2013 awards ceremony in Dublin on February 9.
