President Michael D. Higgins honours O'Donovan brothers at Áras an Úachtaráin

THE O'Donovan brothers and indeed, their local rowing club was brought to Michael D. Higgins' humble abode for a ceremony.

No one could forget the dear O'Donovan brothers, a rowing duo who kept spectators mesmerised by their abilities at rowing but also their good humour and hilarious behaviour when not competing.

The brothers, accompanied by each member of Skibbereen rowing club were in attendance for a special ceremony to honour Gary and Paul O'Donovan, silver medallists at the 2016 Olympics. The Cork boys had the pleasure of meeting Higgins' two dogs, Bród and Síoda, a special moment captured by RollingNews.ie

The President made a formal address to the Skibbereen Rowing Club, no doubt a huge honour for the Cork club, which was filmed by RTÉ.

To commemorate the occasion, captain of the Skibbereen Rowing Club even sang for the President. Captain Sean O'Brien gave a beautiful rendition of Dear Old Skibbereen to a delighted crowd.
