Over 140 sheep 'burned alive' after fire at Donegal farm

MORE THAN 140 sheep have been burned alive after a shed caught fire on a farm in Co. Donegal over the weekend.

The blaze broke out on in a shed at Drumbuoy, Lifford on Sunday around 1pm.

Gardai were quickly alerted to the situation, but by the the time fire fighters arrived at the scene, the flames had completely taken hold of the structure.

The fire occurred in a corrugated steel shed, which contained a number of large hay bales, and unfortunately, around 150 sheep, who sadly all perished before they could escape or be saved.

Gardai are appealing for anybody who was in the St Jude's Court area of Lifford just before 1pm on Sunday. They say they're particularly interested in anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the area around that time.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing and gardai are encouraging anyone with any information to contact Lifford Garda station on 074 914100.
