A New York bar run by two Irishmen has been named the best in the world

IF there is one thing Irish people know, it is how to run a pub.

It will come as no surprise then to learn that a New York pub run by two Irishmen was crowned the world’s best bar at an awards ceremony at the weekend.

Jack McGarry and Sean Muldoon collected the Spirited Award for the World’s Best Bar on behalf of their pub, the Dead Rabbit Bar on Water Street in New York’s financial district.

The bar, though only in operation since 2013, has fast become one of the most popular watering holes in the area

The two Belfast lads are no strangers to success though – the same year the bar was opened, McGarry managed to scoop the award for the best international bar tender.

On a post on their Facebook page, the two said: “This is the culmination of all the work that so many have participated in. Our thanks go out to everyone in our community who has made this possible.”

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday, July 18, in New Orleans and has been dubbed “the Oscars of bartending” by the winners themselves.
