An Post issues special postmark celebrating Rory McIlroy’s Irish Open win

MAIL bearing a special postmark congratulating golfer Rory McIlroy on his Irish Open win will soon be dropping into letterboxes across the globe.

An Post will place the mark, which states ‘Congratulations Rory!’, on millions of national and international letters which are sorted through their mail centres in Athlone, Dublin and Portlaoise in the coming weeks.

The move marks McIlroy’s win at the K Club in Co. Kildare on Sunday, September 7.

An Post has issued a special postmark for Rory McIlroy

The 36-year-old, who hails from Holywood in Co. Down, claimed the Amgen Irish Open title for the second time after beating Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren in a tense play-off.

In April McIlroy secured a career Grand Slam at the Masters, which was marked in a similar fashion by Royal Mail.

An Post said its dedicated postmarks are a “special honour to mark a national celebration”.

They add that their latest postmark “sets the scene for McIlroy’s participation in the famed Ryder cup later this month”.
