Appeal launched to reunite nine stolen dogs with their owners

GARDAI ARE appealing for help reuniting nine dogs, which are believed to have been stolen, with their owners.

The canines were recovered following a search operation on a property in Co Limerick over the weekend.

10 dogs, including Labradors, Springer Spaniels and Huskies, were found after Gardaí searched a residence in Rathkeale last Saturday, August 1.

Upon closer inspection, it was found that none of the dogs had licences or the necessary identification papers.

All 10 were taken to a nearby animal shelter, where they are being cared for while officers attempt to locate their owners.

So far one of the canines – a Cavalier King Charles – has been reunited with its owners, almost two months after it was stolen from their home in Dromcollogher.

Gardaí are now appealing for help in reuniting the remainder.

Anyone who had a dog that went missing over the past few months and believes they could be among the nine still being sheltered is being encouraged to contact Newcastle West Garda Station by email to [email protected].

Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Ber Leetch, meanwhile, is also urging pet owners across Ireland to have their dogs microchipped to protect against potential theft.

The advice comes amid a recent increase in so-called dognappings across Ireland with pets being stolen from homes across the Emerald Isle.
