Boy, 14, dies after car he was driving crashed in rural Donegal

A BOY has died after the car he was driving crashed in rural County Donegal.

The youngster, believed to be just 14 years old, was behind the wheel of an "old" car when it crashed on the Inishowen Peninsula just after 6pm this evening.

The incident is understood to have occurred on an isolated lane between the towns of Moville and Redcastle, close to an area known as Clar.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

The schoolboy was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Letterkenny University Hospital.

He is thought to be the eldest of a young family in the area and had recently completed his second year at Moville Community College.

His parents and younger siblings are being comforted in the wake of the tragedy.

Gardaí in Buncrana are investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy's death.
