IRISH youngsters are coming to Britain too late according to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
Speaking after his side’s 4-0 win against Shamrock Rovers at Lansdowne Road last night, the Antrim native said: “The Barclays Premier League is the most competitive league in the world, over 63 per cent are foreign players.”
“I think it’s the same [for Irish players] as what it is for the British players. It’s the opportunity and getting that chance.”
“I think what you get with a lot of Irish boys is they come over - they struggle. They miss home and then they come back.
“I think it’s about that education before they come over. A lot of them start their apprenticeship at 16, but even then it’s too late. There is no doubt the talent hasn’t disappeared, but it’s about the professionalism and the determination to want to be a player.”
