Full cast list for the Game of Thrones Prequel revealed and it’s got a distinctly Irish flavour

THE FULL cast list and director of the much-anticipated Game of Thrones spin-off series has been revealed and it’s got a distinctly Irish flavour.

Though many Irish fans of the epic fantasy series will be hoping to see the show return to the Emerald Isle for more filming, creator George RR Martin has already insisted the series will unfold “un a very different place.

Now the team behind the Game of Thrones spin-off, which has been given the tentative title of The Long Night, has revealed the show’s full cast and director.

While fans were already aware of the fact Australian actress Naomi Watts had joined the production as "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret,” little else had been reported…until now.

A raft of notable names have now been added to the main cast by HBO.

They include Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: Episode IX), Jamie Campbell Bower (The Twilight Saga), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans), Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia), Alex Sharp (How to Talk to Girls at Parties), and Toby Regbo (Reign).

Game of Thrones fans given first tease of prequel series as plot and cast details emerge.

The most notable name for the Irish Post, however, is Denise Gough, who has also joined the show in an unspecified role.

An award-winning actress best known for her work on Angels in America, Gough also happens to herald from Clare and is set for a major part on the series.

Director S.J. Clarkson, who has credits include Jessica Jones, has also been attached.

George R.R. Martin previously lifted the lid on what to expect from The Long Night in an interview with EW, explain that events in the prequel occur "about 5,000 words" before Game of Thrones when "Westeros is a very different place."

"There’s no King’s Landing," Martin said. "There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series."
