Grand Theft Mayo: Three arrested after Garda squad cars rammed in West of Ireland car chase

THREE men have been arrested after two Garda patrol cars were rammed during a high-speed car chase in Co. Mayo.

The incidents occurred across a wide area to the south of the county in the early hours of this morning.

Two Garda officers received minor injuries along with the three suspects as a result of the impacts.

All of the injured were treated at Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar but were later discharged.

The chase began shortly before 3am after a Skoda Octavia was reported stolen from the Derrywash area, south of Castlebar.

A Garda patrol car was rammed on the Castlebar to Ballinrobe road near to Ballyheane a short time later.

A second squad car that joined the chase near Ballinrobe was also rammed.

Three males were later arrested close to the village of Neale after the chase came to an end.

One of the suspects is a teenager, while the other two are understood to be aged in their early 20s.

All three are being held for questioning at Castlebar Garda Station.
