Ireland officially named 'most generous' country in the world

IRELAND is the world's most generous country, according to a report by GoFundMe.

The fundraising platform released its 2020 Giving Report, which noted, among other things, the countries which made the most donations per capita.

Ireland was ranked first, ahead of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia in fifth.

The report found that Galway was Ireland's most generous town, followed closely by Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Waterford.

Meanwhile, Derry was ranked as the UK's most generous city.

In Ireland, 40% of donors decided to donate more than once, while on April 21, more than 25,000 donations were made, making it the country's most generous day.

One individual donated 97 times to 94 different fundraisers.

One of the top five global fundraisers on GoFundMe this year was to help Native Americans fight one of the worst coronavirus outbreaks in the US, with donations flooding in from Ireland to pay tribute to aid from the Choctaw tribe during the famine.
