Ireland dubbed 'most generous' country in the world after setting donation record

IRELAND has been labelled the most generous country in the world after the announcement that over €40 million has been donated to GoFundMe pages by the Irish people.

Nearly one in ten Irish men and women have reportedly decided to donate to GoFundMe causes since its launch in 2010.

More people per capita take action and donate through the website in Ireland than in any other nation in the world.

The site revealed this week that over 20,000 GoFundMe campaigns have been created by people in Ireland in that time too.

In total, 860,000 individual donations have been made, amounting to just over €40 million.

Rob Solomon, Ccairman and CEO of GoFundMe, said "Millions of people across Ireland are paving the way for a worldwide explosion in online giving.

"With one in 10 people here using GoFundMe to give quickly, safely and securely to the personal causes they care about most, GoFundMe has become Ireland’s ‘Take Action’ button.

"We are delighted that more and more Irish people are supporting those in need."

In 2018, the number of GoFundMe campaigns started in Ireland grew by over 50%.

Since 2010, over €6 billion has been raised around the world via GoFundMe pages.
