Irish woman dies in Tenerife after falling from a balcony

A CORK woman has died after falling from a balcony whilst on holiday in Tenerife.

Ramona Fagan had arrived on the Spanish island just a few days before her tragic death on Wednesday, June 15.

Staff at the resort tried to revive the 22-year-old after she plunged from the balcony but she was later pronounced dead at the scene, the Irish Independent reports.

A former pupil of Mayfield Community School, it is understood Ramona had traveled to the Canary Islands with a friend.

Six weeks ago the young woman had posted on Instagram about how excited she was to be commencing what she called a "summer of adventures and fun."

Ramona's friends have paid tribute to her on Facebook, sending condolences to the young woman's family.

One friend described her as: "A gorgeous young girl with a contagious smile. Thinkin of your family and big group of friends. A sad day for the parish. Rip Ramona Fagan"

One pal said: "You will be FOREVER in my heart my Dear Ramona Fagan till we meet again R.i.p <3"

"Such a cruel world we live in ? rip Ramona Fagan ? thinking of you and your family ❤️" another friend added.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is providing consular assistance to the family.
