Irishman dies in drowning incident in Spain

AN IRISHMAN has reportedly died in a drowning incident in Spain.

The tragedy happened on Friday morning in the sea at Zurriola Beach in the city of San Sebastian in the Basque Country.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said that it is providing consular assistance to  family of the man, who is believed believed to be in his 30s.

According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, the alarm was raised when a man lost sight of two of his friends who had jumped into the sea at around 4.45am.

A search was undertaken by emergency services with the assistance of surfers and one of the men was located safe on the beach.

At around 7am, the body of the other man was retrieved from the water.
