TODAY’S glorious summer weather may well have put you in mind for an after work beer.
With temperatures as high as they are, it would be rude not to.
But if you are in London you are likely to be paying an average of £2.96 for that thirst-quenching drink, while your peers in Leeds are handing over a mere £1.96 to obtain the same pleasure.
And if you’re in Liverpool, well you’ve got one over all of us – paying a mere £1.70 on average for your preferred beer.
London has been revealed as the 13th most expensive city in the world in the annual Beer Price Index released by the GoEuro travel search website based on the average price of a 33cl beer.
And Dublin isn’t far behind, with the average price of a beer listed as £2.82, putting the Irish capital 22nd most expensive in the list of 75 cities.
At the lower end of the scale, the least expensive cities in which to purchase a pint are Krakow in Poland and Kiev in Ukraine, with both offering a glass of beer for an average £1.07 a pour.
Not far behind those are Bratislava, Malaga and Delhi, where you can purchase your beer for £1.09, £1.11 and £1.13 respectively.
But the most expensive cities in which to take to the booze are Hong Kong – where you’ll pay £3.97 on average for a beer – and Geneva, which charges a whopping £4.08 for a glass of the amber nectar.
So depending on where you are planning to take your summer holidays this year, beware of the additional costs the booze might bring – as you could be paying a pretty penny or a paltry sum to indulge in your favourite tipple.
“The Beer Index proves a useful guide for holidaymakers looking to find the best value holidays this year, and perfect for those looking at costs beyond their hotel and accommodation”, a GoEuro spokesperson said.
“For example, in Nice and Malaga sun-seekers can sip two beers in the Costa Del Sol for the price of one in the Côte d'Azur.
“But travellers remaining loyal to England will find their pound will go further in cities such as Liverpool, where the average beer is just under half the cost of what city-dwellers pay in London,” they added.
