Man, 50s, critical after serious assault at rural pub in Ireland

A MAN is in a critical condition after a suspected assault in at a rural Irish pub in the early hours of Sunday morning, it has emerged.

Gardai have described the attack as 'serious' and have launched an investigation into the incident which took place on Abbey Street in Fermoy, Co. Cork.

It's believed  the man suffered a serious head injury during the altercation and underwent emergency surgery in Cork University Hospital.

It's understood the injured man, who is from Fermoy had been out with friends when the incident took place.

During the incident the injured party was struck once and he fell to the ground, hitting his head.

Fermoy Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the incident and for anyone who was in the premises at the time to contact them.
