A WOMAN has been stabbed to death in Dundalk, Co. Louth this afternoon.
The incident occurred at an apartment block on Linenhall Street at around 2.45pm.
The woman, aged in her 30s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The scene has been preserved for technical and forensic examinations and the state pathologist and coroner have been notified.
The results of a post mortem will determine the course of the garda investigation.
A man in his 40s has been arrested as part of the investigation.
He is currently being detained at Dundalk Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
