Man in critical condition following serious assault in Cork

GARDAÍ have appealed for information after a man was left in a critical condition following an assault in Cork.

The incident happened between 6pm and 7.30pm on Friday on Oliver Plunkett Street in the city centre.

The injured man, aged in his 40s, was taken to Cork University Hospital where his condition is described as 'critical'.

In a statement, gardaí said the man was 'seriously injured' and have appealed for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to come forward.

"Gardaí are also appealing to any road users who may have been in the area of Grand Parade/Oliver Plunkett Street and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) to make this footage available to Gardaí," added the statement.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 4522000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
