Piers Morgan accuses Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of 'hijacking' the Queen's name

PIERS MORGAN has slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and accused them of "hijacking" the Queen's name.

Earlier this month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their second child into the world, a daughter, Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Her first name, Lilibet, is a tribute to Harry's grandmother, who was given the nickname as a child by her grandfather, King George V, and Diana is of course a nod to Harry's mother, the late Princess of Wales.

While the baby name news has delighted some, others - like Morgan - aren't best pleased.

During a recent appearance on Sean Hannity's show on Fox News, Morgan said the couple had "hijacked" the Queen's nickname, suggesting they chose it for attention, rather than to pay tribute to the British monarch.

"I think it's time those two gave up their royal titles, stop whining 24/7, and try to take a leaf out of the book of the Queen - whose nickname, 'Lilibet', they've hijacked for their daughter," the former Good Morning Britain (GMB) host said.

"Take a little tip from the Queen: Less is more," he added. "We're hearing too much of your yapping, too much of your whining. It's time to pipe down."

Morgan has been a consistent critic of the couple, particularly in the wake of their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March, where they launched a number of damning - yet mostly unsubstantiated - accusations at the Royal Family.

The 56-year-old was forced to quit his job at GMB after stating that he "didn't believe a word" that came out of Markle's mouth.

Morgan faced a fierce backlash from the public, with many accusing him of racism.

It's understood that Markle herself contacted ITV, seeking a public apology from Morgan, though he refused and left his job instead.

"Why should I apologise to someone who is palpably a liar?" Morgan asked Hannity.

"Cancel culture, Twitter mobs come for you and say, 'If you don't believe Meghan Markle, you're a racist'.

"To which I say, 'I've never said a racist thing about Meghan Markle or anybody else'. It has nothing to do with the colour of her skin and everything to do with her inability to tell the truth and her rank hypocrisy."
