Rap song written by Irish teen who tragically died from flu reaches number one in charts

A RAP SONG written and performed by an Irish teen who lost his life earlier this week has made it to number one in the Irish iTunes charts.

15-year-old Sean Hughes from Finglas, Dublin, died at Temple Street Children’s Hospital earlier this week after falling ill with the flu days before.

An online campaign was launched yesterday in an attempt to get Sean’s song My Dream – released under Sean’s rap name Lil’ Red – to the Irish charts.

Since Wednesday, the song has climbed up along the charts, eventually beating The Cranberries' Linger to the top spot.

The campaign was launched by fellow Finglas native Stephen Browne, who despite only meeting Sean once, was inspired by the young man.

“I’ve worked with a few bands, so I have an iTunes account that is able to publish songs and I knew that he had some rap songs.”

Stephen contacted Sean’s family, who gave his idea the go ahead.

“It’s something positive from the sadness,” Stephen said.

“If it makes it into the charts, that’s something they will always have.”

All proceeds will go directly to the Hughes family.
