Saoirse Ronan receives Oscar nomination for role in 'Little Women'

IS ANYONE really surprised at this news?

Ireland's own Saoirse Ronan has received her 4th Oscar nomination at the age of 25.

The Little Women star was tipped for Oscar glory back when the film premiered to critics in October, with 'Variety' award writer Jenelle Riley accurately predicting "Saoirse Ronan is going to land her fourth Academy Award nomination for #LittleWomen at the age of 25".

The actress, who plays Jo March in the newest version of the 19th century classic, has been shortlisted in the Best Actress category.

She joins big names such as Scarlett Johansson, Renée Zelwegger and Charlize Theron in the shortlist for the awards, which will take place in Los Angeles on February 9.

Little Women has received several Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Costume Design, with Ronan's co-star Florence Pugh nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Ronan has previously been nominated for an Oscar for her roles in AtonementBrooklyn, and Lady Bird.

The 25-year-old was the second-youngest person ever to be nominated for three Academy Awards, narrowly missing out on the record to Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence.

She is now the second-youngest person ever to be nominated for four Academy Awards, missing out again to Jennifer Lawrence, who was nominated for her role in the 2015 film Joy when she was just a few months younger than Ronan is now.
