Woman, 20s, 'raped by gang' while walking home from night out in rural Ireland

GARDAÍ have appealed for witnesses after a woman alleged she was attacked and raped by a gang in County Kildare.

The Irishwoman, aged in her 20s, was walking home in Clane between 1.00am and 1.30am on Tuesday morning when the alleged incident is said to have occurred.

The young woman claimed she was attacked by three men and raped by one of them as she walked along Millicent Road in the town.

She went to a house in a nearby estate and raised the alarm a short time later.

It's believed that the three alleged attackers are foreign nationals.

An Aldi shop in Clane was cordoned off and closed for a number of hours yesterday afternoon as Gardaí investigated the alleged attack.

In a statement, an Aldi spokesperson said: "Aldi is assisting the Gardaí with their investigation regarding an alleged incident in the grounds of our Clane, Co. Kildare store in the early hours of this morning.

"The store is open and trading as normal."

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Clane are appealing for witnesses in connection with an alleged sexual assault that occurred in the Millicent Road area of Clane, Co. Kildare between 1am and 1.30am.

"The female injured party, in her early 20s, was walking home on Millicent Road, Clane when she was allegedly assaulted by three men."
