Woman, 68, tragically dies in three-vehicle collision

GARDAÍ have launched an investigation after a woman died in a three-vehicle collision in Co. Roscommon.

The incident happened on the N63 Lanesboro to Roscommon road at Ballinaboy Cross shortly before 9.45pm yesterday.

The 68-year-old woman, a driver of one of the cars, was fatally injured in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was taken to the mortuary at Roscommon University Hospital.

The drivers of the other two cars were injured and taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe and the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore for treatment.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

There was no one else in the three cars.

The road was closed for a period of time to facilitate a Forensic Collision Examination and has since reopened.
