Young homeless woman dies suddenly in Dublin hostel

A WOMAN in her 20's has died in emergency accommodation in Dublin City.

The woman, believed to be in her late 20's, was staying in hostel accommodation on Parkgate Street when she passed away 'suddenly' yesterday evening, January 15th.

Gardaí confirmed that they were called to attend the scene of the sudden death of a young female at approximately 5pm, and said a file will be prepared for the Coroner's court.

Dublin Live reports that the woman had been staying in the emergency hostel accommodation for the past two months.

The Dublin Region Housing Executive (DRHE), who had provided the woman with the accommodation, offered their condolences to the woman's family and friends in a statement.

They said:

"The Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE), on behalf of the four Dublin local authorities, would like to express its condolences to the family and friends of the young woman, who tragically passed away yesterday evening Wednesday 15th January in a facility that provides 24 hour emergency accommodation to people experiencing homelessness."

Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) also released a statement on social media following the death of the young woman, which referenced the "tragic death in emergency accommodation last night".

"Our deepest sympathies to the woman's family and friends. This week has seen the death of a homeless woman, a homeless man injured for life during a tent removal and our teams assisted 126 people on outreach last night."

Over 10,000 people are believed to be homeless in Ireland, with a third of that figure believed to be children.
