THE FATE of the London hurlers for 2013 will be determined at the next meeting of the County Board on August 13.
Following their historic Christy Ring Cup success last month, the Exiles have the option of moving up a grade next year to compete with hurling’s elite in the Liam McCarthy Cup.
Croke Park need a decision by September 30, so the issue will be the main topic of discussion at the next gathering of London GAA chiefs.
London hurling manager Eamonn Phelan, pictured, has already expressed a desire for his side to capitalise on the opportunity to contest next season’s Leinster Championship.
“Personally I’d say go into the Liam MacCarthy, give it a lash and see where it takes London,” said Phelan.
County Board chairman Noel O’Sullivan has told Phelan that the decision will ultimately be left up to him and the players.
However, an e-mail has been circulated to clubs by the County Board requesting their feedback for the August 13 meeting, when a final decision will be made.
Phelan is currently away on holiday but is expected to meet the Board Executive prior to the meeting.
It was confirmed at a meeting of the Leinster Council last week that London will be accepted into the provincial championship.
