Graham Burke scores goal of the season from half-way line for Shamrock Rovers

GRAHAM BURKE - take a bow, son.

We are only four games into the League of Ireland season, and we've already got what will surely win the goal of the season award.

Shamrock Rovers were 2-0 winners away in Derry on Tuesday night, and while a lot of the footballing world were watching Bayern and PSG in the Champions League quarter-final, Rovers' striker Graham Burke was busy scoring crackers from the half-way line.

Well, it was actually inches into the Derry half, but we won't hold it against him.

He did well to beat an opposition player and showed good strength to hold off the defender, before letting fly from the half-way line, with goalkeeper Nathan Gartside unable to do anything about the incredible strike.

What an effort.

Understandably, Burke was rewarded for this cracker with the man-of-the-match award, and it's just a pity that there were no fans in attendance to celebrate what really was a special moment.

While this is surely the goal of the season wrapped up in the League of Ireland, up North, Glentoran's Ruaidhri Donnelly scored a header from 40 yards out over the weekend, which you can see here.

A good week for crackers on the island of Ireland.
