McCarthy hails 'tactical genius' Martinez

IRISH international and Wigan midfielder James McCarthy has hailed manager Roberto Martinez as a "tactical genius" following his side’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Manchester City on Saturday.

Wigan surprised the footballing world when a late Ben Watson header claimed them their first FA victory at Wembley.

McCarthy, who has been ever-present for Wigan, was full of praise for Martinez, saying it was an "honour" to work with the Spaniard.

The 22-year-old said: “I think the gaffer is a tactical genius; he's brilliant. I've been here for a couple of years and I've learned so much underneath him.

"It's a real honour to work underneath him. Really, it's down to his tactics that we came away with the cup."

McCarthy  is now being targeted by some of the biggest teams in the Premiership with Tottenham and Arsenal said to be considering a £10million move for him this summer.
