Owen Mulligan tells brilliant tale about the late Art McRory

Former Tyrone footballer Owen Mulligan has paid his own brilliant tribute to the late Art McRory, who passed away this week at the age of 82.

Art McRory is best known for his efforts in guiding Tyrone to two All-Ireland Finals, in 1986 and 1995. They lost both finals to Kerry and Dublin.

Notably, this iconic head coach orchestrated an unprecedented achievement of securing five Ulster Senior Football Championship titles for his county, specifically in the years 1984, 1986, 1995, 1996, and 2001. He also had a hand in the county's All-Ireland minor win in 1973.

Tributes have been paid all week, and Mulligan has become the latest to offer his own tribute to the legendary Tyrone boss.

The social media post read: "Like many today, I'd like to express my deepest sympathy to the McRory family on the passing of a mighty man, Art," it read.

"Art called me up in 2001 and gave me my championship debut. He also gave me probably the best advice I've ever received from a manager.

"After missing a Tuesday night training session, following a customary championship Monday night club binge, he called me over ahead of the Thursday night session.

"Young Mulligan, you need to stop hanging about with your three best friends if you want to make it as a Tyrone senior footballer or get any sort of success."

"I asked him, 'Who are they?'

"He said, 'The most popular ones: Arthur Guinness, John Jameson, and Gerard Cavlan.'

"He then pushed his glasses back up to his nose and smirked.

'I miss nothing, you bollocks!'"
