Weekend Betting Tips: Shyron poised for Lingfield

Our tipster Karl Hedley provides the odds for the weekend's races

SATURDAY

LINGFIELD

2-15        LADBROKES HANDICAP – 7 FURLONGS 1 YD

Shyron has been in excellent form this season and has racked up four wins from his last six starts. Two of those victories have come over this course and distance and his last three wins have come when Martin Harley has been in the saddle. He is a rapidly improving four year old and George Margarson has clearly found the key to him. He can be expected to confirm recent form with the likes of Grey Mirage, Bravo Echo, Related and Firmdecisions.

Holiday Magic operates well on this track and has finished first and second on his only two previous visits here. Tom Marquand should know a bit more about his partner this time around and with Charlie Appleby operating here with over a thirty percent strike rate, the combination command respect. Lunar Deity stays further than this and has won on his last two visits to Lingfield. He saw off some in form rivals last time and is another with live place claims. Shyron is not as exposed as some of these and it will be of no surprise if he finds the necessary gears to win again.

NEWCASTLE

2-55        BETFRED EIDER (HANDICAP CHASE) – 4 M 1 F

Herdsman has only recently joined the Brian Ellison team but he is getting better with each run. He was a four time winner when trained by Sue Smith and acts with plenty of give in the ground. His most recent effort saw him stepped up in trip and he was only just denied by the re-opposing Scotswell. This extra couple of furlongs and a reversal at the weights should see him turn that form around and Brian Hughes is set to retain the ride.

Wyck Hill looked back to somewhere near his best last time when runner up at Chepstow and having won this race last season, it was obvious to target him here for a repeat. His stamina is assured and despite being tasked with a huge weight he looks an obvious danger. This is the first time that Tom Cannon has partnered the ten year old but they warrant a second look. This is a gruelling test of endurance and only really suits proven stayers and mud larks. Herdsman will be fully at home under these conditions and he should go well for his locally based trainer.

KEMPTON

3-45        BETBRIGHT CHASE – 3 MILES

Fox Appeal has acquitted himself well throughout the winter months and he was unfortunate to bump into a rejuvenated Rebel Rebellion in a similar company at Ascot recently. He tried valiantly to stay with the winner on that occasion but ultimately the weight difference was too much for him to concede and he faded in the closing stages. A return to Kempton should be in his favour as he is two time course winner and Richie McClernon has a good record on the Emma Lavelle trained eight year old.

Rajdhani Express takes a significant step down in grade to contest his first handicap since October. He is a classy sort on his day and like the selection he is a previous course winner. Sam Waley-Cohen has been back amongst the winners in recent days and he is able to claim a useful three pounds. This is their first attempt at this trip but if seeing it out they cannot be dismissed for an in form trainer.

Le Reve enjoyed the soft ground at Sandown last time when powering home to win by a comfortable five lengths. If conditions were to deteriorate further it would certainly work in his favour and he too would have to enter calculations. Fox Appeal is usually the most consistent of sorts and he does have a prize like this in him. The yard enjoyed a big race success last weekend and they will be hoping for more of the same here.
