New record as 83 Irish beaches awarded with Blue Flags for excellent water quality

IF THIS doesn't make you want to pack your bags for a trip to the seaside, nothing will.

A record number of Irish beaches have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for 2021- four more than last year.

83 beaches and 10 marinas have been presented with the environmental award, which is given to coastal areas which have good compliance with sewage treatment and excellent quality of water for swimmers and surfers.

Inchydoney East beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for the very first time, while several others have regained their Blue Flag status after several years.

The list of all 93 beaches and marinas was revealed yesterday, as people begin planning their Staycations, and as most people plan to flock to the coast, Blue Flag beaches with their crystal clear and safe water will be at the top of the list for tourists.

Counties Donegal and Kerry, already favourtes for summer tourists at home and abroad, have received the most Blue Flags, with 14 each for their beaches and marinas, The Journal reports.
