Murphy Pipe and Civil, the Australian associated company of leading Irish civil engineering and building contractor J. Murphy & Sons Limited, has secured an AUS $100m pipeline construction contract with Queensland Gas Company.
Continuing to etch its dominance within Australia’s construction arena, Murphy Pipe and Civil managing director, Jim Campbell welcomed the contract win.
He said it would further strengthen the solid working relationship that the company has with QGC. “While we already have a firm presence within the Surat Basin’s coal seam gas (CSG) upstream gathering sector, this contract will further enable our company’s steel pipeline construction arm to make strategic inroads into this developing region,” he said.
The 90km pipeline will transport coal seam gas and water between gas and water processing facilities in the Surat Basin, southern Queensland.
The project will include the construction of approximately 25km of 400mm diameter gas pipeline and 66km of 560mm, 760mm and 900mm diameter water pipeline.
Around 250 new jobs will be created within Murphy Pipe and Civil as a result of the contract. The contract completion is scheduled for mid-2013.
Earlier this year, Murphy Pipe and Civil was awarded the contract to install 3000km of high density polyethylene pipeline covering QGC’s entire upstream gas gathering network. This project is expected to be completed in early 2014.
Murphy Pipe and Civil was formed in 2010, following J. Murphy & Sons Limited’s 50 per cent acquisition of the Australian company Pipe and Civil Pty Limited. The company has reputedly become a leader in providing pipeline solutions to the energy, water and mining sectors in Australia.
