Popular Irish pub chain McGettigans to debut in London in 2016

A POPULAR Irish pub chain has revealed its plans to launch its first bar in London later this year.

McGettigans will continue its international expansion by making its English debut on Fulham Broadway, close to the home of Chelsea Football Club.

The pub chain was established in the 1960s in Dublin, with further bars opened in Donegal, Limerick and Galway.

To date McGettigans boasts 11 bars in total, with venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and New York.

Brand manager Declan Pierce vows to bring quality bands from Ireland over to play at the new London pub, with the pub chain having previously hosted East 17 and The Coronas across their global bars.

“There are huge numbers of Irish people in London and we believe there is demand for our brand,” he said.

It is expected that the three-storey property in the English capital will be opened by mid-2016.

Lettings agents Savills are advising McGettigans with their expansion into England, and have said that the pub chain is exploring opening bars in Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham.

Kevin Marsh, Head of Licensed Leisure at Savills, said: “McGettigans is a very popular pub chain that has traded successfully in numerous locations across the world. This is an excellent site in London for its first UK location, close to a number of bars and restaurants.”
