Colin Morgan lands lead role in new BBC drama The Living and the Dead

COLIN Morgan will star as the lead in BBC One’s new supernatural period-drama The Living and the Dead.

The Armagh native will play Nathan Appleby, a young man faced with menacing supernatural phenomena.

Morgan - who featured alongside Jamie Dornan in The Fall – is eager to begin work on the new six-part series, which is set in 1890s Somerset.

"The Living and the Dead is one of those scripts that you read and are instantly compelled and engaged by,” he said.

“It's intelligent, chilling and engrossing, it's going to be very special and I can't wait to start working on it with the wonderful creative team."

Stonemouth actress Charlotte Spencer has been cast as Morgan’s character's wife, Charlotte.

They will play a brilliant young couple who inherit a farm in Somerset and are trying to embark on a new life together.

However, the isolation of their new home and unsettling paranormal activities begin to threaten their marriage and sanities.

Eliza Mellor, the creator of popular BBC period drama Poldark – starring Irish actor Aidan Turner – will produce the series.

Filming on The Living and the Dead has already begun.
