Paddy Callaghan named Young Traditional Musician of the Year

GLASGOW accordion player Paddy Callaghan, 26, has been named BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2013 following an outstanding performance at the Royal Conservatoire.

His performance was part of an evening of entertainment broadcast live on BBC Radio Scotland.

The development worker for Comhaltas Ceoltoírí Éireann overcame competition from five other contestants to win.

The multi-instrumentalist learned his trade under the legendary Frank McArdle and the St. Roch’s Céilí Band.

Despite playing traditional music on the button accordion, harp and concertina, Paddy also performs in a successful Rockabilly/Cajun band The Chihuahuas.

He also hosts his own radio show ‘Trad with Pad’ on Celtic Music Radio every Tuesday evening from 6-7pm.
