Tragedy as Canadian rapper dies after plunging from plane while filming music video

A CANADIAN rapper has died during a music video shoot after a stunt involving an airplane wing went wrong.

Jon James McMurray, 34, known professionally as 'Jon James', was walking on the wing of an airborne Cessna when he stepped too far out and made the small aircraft go into a downward spiral.

"Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn't have time to pull his chute," the musician's management team said in a statement.

"He impacted and died instantly."

The pilot was able to control the plane and landed safely.  No one else was injured in the tragedy, which occurred near Westwold in British Columbia.

According to his website, Jon James was an accredited professional skier but pursued a career as a rapper after suffering multiple injuries, including a broken back and shattered heel.

He is survived by his wife, parents and brother. A GoFundMe page has been set up in his memory.

"[Jon] had trained intensely for this stunt," added his manager Ryan Desrochers. "He died filming for a project he had been working on for months.

"He filled everyone around him with positivity, and never spoke poorly about another person. He truly had a heart of gold."

A friend of McMurray told the Vancouver Star: "He planned for everything. It should have been straightforward.

"It’s one of those things. We’re not really sure what happened."

Police are investigating the incident.
