MANCHESTER’S Irish Association Social Club, now known as the Chorlton Irish Club, celebrated its 60th annual dinner in great style, attracting 430 guests to the Midland Hotel in the city centre.

A few years ago the committee decided to abandon some of the formalities previously associated with this event in favour of delivering an enjoyable night for all.

Chairman Andrew McHale said: “We are grateful for the generosity and foresight of those that have gone before us and I am particularly pleased that so many of the names associated with the club are represented here tonight by their children and grandchildren.

“On an occasion such as tonight we celebrate and pay tribute to them. But if we are to do more than just pay lip service, surely the best way we can thank them is to make sure that we are able to hand over a vibrant, relevant club to the next generation.”
