Anti-abortion campaigners erect giant NO sign on Ben Bulben Mountain

ANTI-ABORTION campaigners have erected a huge “No” slogan on Ben Bulben mountain in Co Sligo.

With just over a week to go until the abortion referendum, the action has sparked a furious reaction on social media.

A team of 20 began erecting the sign at around 4 am this morning and by the time locals woke up and looked up at the 526-metre mountain, they were greeted by white “cladding plastic” with the word “No” in 50m high letters on the mountain’s north side.

Speaking to the local Ocean FM radio station, the campaigners responsible for the No slogan said they received permission from all the landowners.

They also said that the sign will remain in place until after the referendum next week.

A spokesman for the campaigners, who identified himself as "Tommy", told the radio host: “This is a cry from the mountain to save Ireland's babies. No one is listening."

He said that the operation was "well-planned and well-executed, just as the government is planning to execute the future children of Ireland.”

Another campaigner, called Andrew, added: "This is about the government not listening to people... There has been a lot of work been put into this and a lot of people have been involved in it."
