Arrest made as young man found dead in house in County Mayo

A GARDA investigation has been launched following the discovery of a body in a house in County Mayo.

Emergency services were called to a property in Carrowbeg, Swinford, at around 11pm last night where they found a man who had suffered serious injuries as a result of a suspected assault.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the man, aged in his 20's, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30's in relation to the incident; he was taken to Castlebar Garda Station last night where he is being held for questioning.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the victim's body later today as detectives work to determine the chain of events which led to the suspected assault.

According to RTÉ News, police believe a disagreement may have broken out in the property between 8pm and 11pm last night, Monday 16 November, and the investigation is centred around that timeframe.

An Garda Síochána have issued an appeal for anyone who may have information, or who may have witnessed anything unusual in the town of Swinford between 8pm and 11pm last night to come forward.

Anyone with information which could assist the investigation are urged to contact Gardaí in Swinford on 094 925 2990, or anonymously on the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
