Conor McGregor announces UFC comeback and says Nurmagomedov rematch 'will happen'

CONOR MCGREGOR has official set a date for his UFC comeback.

The Irishman confirmed he would return to the Octagon on January 18, 2020, in Las Vegas.

It’s not yet known who McGregor will fight, with the Notorious telling reporters he did “not give a f***” who it ends up being.

The bout will be McGregor’s first since his submission defeat to Russian MMA star Khabib Nurmagomedov in October last year.

Both fighters were hit with lengthy bans following the ugly scenes that greeted the end of the match with members of both teams fighting inside and outside the Octagon.

The press conference also saw McGregor address plans for a potential rematch with the Russian, with recent reports indicating the Irishman could meet Nurmagomedov in Moscow.

While a rematch remains on the cards, fans could be waiting a while before McGregor meets Nurmagomedov again.

McGregor told reporters he is eager to fight the winner of Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal after his comeback bout.

He would then look to fight the winner of Nurmagomedov’s fight with Tony Ferguson, in a scenario that could put the two fighters on a collision course.

On the likelihood of a rematch, McGregor said: "It will happen. I am not waiting around for that man, he is a known pull-out.

"You can run but you cannot hide. He ran out of the press conference in Moscow last week. It is in his nature. Trust me I am coming for him.

"Where is he now in this country? I fly in, he flies out. Typical.

"I am going to go through the entire roster like a chainsaw through butter."

McGregor is now set to begin an intensive 12-week training schedule in preparation for the January bout.

"Fight is 12 weeks this Saturday," he said. “I go into camp from this tour and you will not see me until I go to fight.

"My family motivates and inspires me. I want to show them what hard work can do."
