Coventry man given suspended sentence over fisherman attack

A MAN who pushed a fisherman into a pond in Coventry has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Brendan Cleary, 45, of Gloucester Street, Spon End, was sentenced at Coventry Magistrates Court on Monday, October 12 after pleading guilty to assault and criminal damage.

The fisherman’s equipment was damaged in the attack on Wednesday, September 23.

Unemployed Cleary was handed a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay £100 compensation.

Footage of the incident, which took place in Swanswell Park in Coventry, was uploaded to YouTube last month and has received thousands of views since.

Police are still searching for a second man in connection with the incident. Anyone with information should call West Midlands Police on 101.
