'Die Hard' Limerick farmer tackles troublesome passenger mid-flight

A LIMERICK farmer has been compared to Bruce Willis – after he tackled an unruly passenger during a flight to London.

The drama unfolded on a flight from Hong Kong to Heathrow last weekend, just 15 minutes into the 12-hour journey.

At one point, a passenger attempted to open the emergency exit on board and the Kilcornan man, who wishes to remain anonymous, tackled him to the ground.

With the help of some other passengers, the have-a-go hero managed to restrain the perpetrator and the airline staff handcuffed him to his seat.

Independent local councillor in Limerick Emmet O’Brien, a friend of the 48-year-old, said his actions were comparable to John McClaine – Bruce Willis’ character in the Die Hard films.

“He not be the type to let any type of blackguarding to go on,” he added.
