Elderly woman (80s) killed in assault in Dublin

AN ELDERLY woman has been killed in an assault which took place overnight in Dublin.

The unnamed victim, believed to be a woman in her 80s, was found dead in a house in Kincora Court estate, Clontarf, at around 8pm last night.

A man aged in his 60s was arrested at the scene and is being detained for questioning at Clontarf Garda Station.

Gardaí report that the suspect is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The scene of her death has been preserved and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

The woman's body remains at the scene this morning ahead of a Garda forensic examination of the scene which will help establish how the woman died.

A post-mortem will be carried out on the victim's body once her remains can be removed from the house.

It is understood that Gardaí are following 'a definite line of enquiry' in relation to the woman's death.

Investigations are ongoing.
