Elderly woman robbed at knifepoint by men pretending to be employees for Irish Water

A WOMAN in her 80s has been left terrified following the invasion of her home by two fake Irish Water workers.

In south county Dublin, the woman answered her front door to two men, who claimed to be working for Irish Water who wished to check her water pressure.

The woman, unsuspecting of their motives let them into her residence at Lavarna Grove, Terenure but after a short time, she was threatened with a knife.

According to Dublin Live, the two men had the woman at knifepoint to demand her possessions and made away with a small amount of stolen cash.

It's believed the victim was left uninjured by the thieves but was left shaken and afraid following the incident.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said an investigation into the crime had been launched:

"Gardaí in Terenure are investigating an aggravated burglary at a house at Lavarna Grove, Terenure on the 8th March 2018...

"The incident occurred at approximately 1.45pm when two males called to a house under the pretence of checking the water pressure, the occupant of the house a lady in her late 80's allowed them into the house."
