Embassy in London working to verify 'slave' victim is Irish citizen

THE IRISH Embassy in London has been in contact with police in Britain to verify reports that an Irish national was one of three women held captive in South London for the past 30 years.

Following yesterday’s shocking revelation that the women were held as ‘hidden slaves’ in a South London house for the past three decades, the police confirmed that one of the captives was a 57-year-old Irish national.

The Irish Embassy, who were unable to comment on the case yesterday, today released a statement confirming they had made contact with the authorities to offer their assistance.

The state: “The Irish embassy in London is in contact with the authorities to confirm reports that one of the women involved is an Irish citizen and has advised them that we will offer any and all assistance required.”

The women, who included a 69-year-old Malaysian woman and a 30-year-old British woman, who is believed to have spent her whole life in domestic slavery, were freed on October 25.

A London couple were today released on bail after being arrested yesterday as suspects in a case.
