French fishing vessel detained by Irish Naval Service

A FRENCH fishing vessel has been detained by the Irish Naval Service off the coast of Co. Cork.

It is alleged the vessel was in breach of fishing regulations.

The LÉ William Butler Yeats detained the boat this morning around 110 nautical miles south of Mizen Head.

The French-registered vessel was due to be escorted to port where it was to be handed over to gardaí.

The Naval Service added that it was the sixth vessel it had detained this year.

In May the LE Róisín detained a Spanish-registered vessel in a similar region, also for alleged breaches of fishing regulations.
