Garda hit with baseball bat in Leinster

A MEMBER of An Garda Síochána was injured in the area of County Dublin on Saturday evening, it has emerged.

The incident reportedly occurred when two members of the force were searching a man in the Ballyogan Avenue near Leopardstown on Saturday evening.

The Gardaí were attempting to search a man when a crowd of people emerged with one person holding a metal baseball bat.

According to The Irish Times, a statement from the Garda Press Office said "One of the gardaí was hit with the bat a number of times causing injuries to his body, head and face. The garda was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he remains."

Following the attack, a search was performed on a residence in Ballyogan Avenue and during the incident, the other Garda was bitten by a dog.

Following the search, a man believed to be in his 50s was arrested and a number of items were seized.

He is being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Dún Laoghaire Garda station.
