Garda recover car after suspected hit-and-run in which man died

GARDAÍ investigating a suspected hit-and-run last night in which a man died have recovered a car believed to be linked to the incident.

A 32-year-old man was treated at the scene after being struck on the N4 at Deerpark in Newtownforbes, Co. Longford at around 11.45pm on Friday.

He was transferred to the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was later pronounced dead.

His body has been removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore for a post mortem.

A second man who had been walking with him at the time was uninjured.

Today, gardaí recovered a car after a man believed to be the driver came forward.

The man, aged in his 20s, is currently assisting them with their investigation.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone travelling on the N4 from Newtownforbes to Rooskey between 11pm and 12.30am and who may have dash cam footage to contact them.
